Apple Butter
This easy to make fall treat can be used in so many ways. The commonly know name is "apple butter" but I really just think of it like spiced apple concentrate.
It can be used in iced coffee, cinnamon rolls, whipped cream, cheesecake, and the list goes on. It’s a spicy, apple-y flavor that can be made once and used over and over again.
Apple Butter
About 3 pounds apples (9 medium apples)
2 cups water
1 cup dark brown sugar
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon apple pie spice
1 teaspoon of vanilla
pinch of salt
Peel, core, and roughly chop apples. Add them to a heavy-bottom pot. Add water, brown sugar, cinnamon, apple pie spice, vanilla, and salt. Cook on medium-low for one hour or until very tender, stirring occasionally. Remove from the heat.
Use an immersion blender to puree until completely smooth. Allow it to cool. Portion into containers. Store in the refrigerator for up to 3 weeks or in the freezer for several months.
